The Department of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking highly motivated professionals with expertise in biostatistics and/or bioinformatics. The successful candidate will join a vibrant academic team working on a wide variety of important investigator-initiated and collaborative projects in cancer research. MD Anderson is ranked the No. 1 cancer center in the country, and its leadership recognizes that bioinformatics is key to the goal of using biomarkers and biosignatures to “personalize” cancer management. Hence, there are major opportunities for the talented individual to play a well-supported, creative role in the battle against cancer. We are offering two types of positions: • Statistical Analysts, will focus principally on statistical analysis of molecular data. • BioAnalysts (a new career track within bioinformatics), will focus principally on biological interpretation of molecular data (in terms of pathways, ontologies, published literature, and the like). Minimum requirements for Statistical Analysts: M.S. or Ph.D. in statistics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, computer science, or a related field; a minimum of 1 year of analytical experience with high-throughput molecular data (in genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, sequence analysis, or the like); excellent communication skills. Preferred: an undergraduate major or working experience in biomedical or basic biological research; experience with R or Bioconductor programming; experience writing analytical sections of grants. Individuals with sufficient experience for Team Leader or Associate Director positions are especially welcomed to apply. Preferred requirements for BioAnalysts: Ph.D. in a field of biology, biomedical science, or bioinformatics; strong computer skills including programming; a minimum of 2 years of experience directly relevant to bioinformatics in medical research; experience in analysis and interpretation of high-throughput molecular data.
