Description :
The Chiang lab is seeking a bioinformatics postdoc or research associate to join a dynamic new research group at the University of North Carolina. As part of a collaborative team at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, we will collect gene expression data on 2000 tumors per year for the NIH Cancer Genome Atlas project. We are recruiting a highly motivated team member to analyze Illumina next-generation sequence data from this project. The successful candidate will work independently to discover mutations and aberrant transcripts from tumors. This effort requires both the automation of third-party software, as well as code development to implement statistical tests and visualization tools. The candidate will generate reports to summarize these results and store them in a database. In addition, he or she will regularly communicate research findings to other scientists in the group. *Education Requirements* Applicants must have a Master’s degree in bioinformatics, computer science, statistics, electrical engineering, or a related field. A PhD degree is preferred. *Qualifications and Experience* Strong programming skills in C/C++ or Java are required, as well as a solid understanding of statistical methods. The applicant must demonstrate excellent communication skills and resourcefulness in working independently. Previous experience with mySQL, Oracle, R or MATLAB are preferred. The ideal applicant has at least 2 or more years of research experience with sequence analyses, microarray data and genomic databases.
